transit.det.city is a free, volunteer-run guide to public transit in the Detroit-Windsor region. We do not sell, share, rent or otherwise use anyone's personal data for any purpose. The only personal information we hold is what you give us to run the features below, and we keep it only as long as those features need it.
You can use everything on this site without signing in. Favorite stops and routes are saved in your own browser's storage and never leave your device unless you sign in and choose to sync them. Dismissed alerts are remembered the same way.
Location. "Stops near me" and the trip planner ask your browser for your location only when you tap the locate button. The coordinates are sent to our server to find nearby stops or plan a trip, used for that one request, and not stored.
Place search. Addresses you type in the trip planner are looked up through our server using Photon, an OpenStreetMap geocoder. The text of the search is sent to that service; nothing identifying you goes with it.
Map tiles. The basemap is served from our own storage. Loading tiles reveals your IP address and the area you are looking at to our storage provider, the same as loading any image on the web.
Signing in is optional and exists so your favorites follow you between devices. We store:
There are no passwords. Signing in by email sends you a one-time link through Resend, which sees your address in order to deliver it. Signing in with Google tells us only your email address; we do not receive your contacts, calendar or anything else from Google, and we do not post to it.
You can delete your account at any time from your favorites page. That removes your email, your synced favorites, your settings and every session from our database immediately. Favorites saved in your browser stay in your browser until you clear them.
Messages sent through the contact form are stored with the name and email you choose to include, so we can reply. We do not add you to any list.
We collect anonymous, aggregate statistics about how the site is used, such as which pages and agencies are viewed and roughly how many people visit, to decide what to improve. These numbers are not tied to an account or a person. We do not use advertising networks, tracking pixels or cross-site tracking of any kind.
Our hosting provider keeps standard web server logs (IP address, requested page, browser type, time) for a short period for security and debugging. We do not combine these with account data.
We set two cookies: one that keeps you signed in, and one that remembers your theme choice. Neither is used for tracking. There are no third-party cookies.
Transit agency websites, Google, and other sites we link to have their own privacy policies. This policy covers only transit.det.city.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Questions go through the contact form.
